July 2004
I
first met Lynne Page when she was teaching aerobics classes at
my health club in Aurora, IL. I remember being impressed that
my abs were sore after taking one of her hour-long classes that
focuses on the stomach muscles. (I could do sit-ups on my own,
but was not able to wear out the muscles in the same way.)
I
was so impressed with Lynne's energy and knowledge that I hired
her as my personal trainer twice a week, for an hour. I had recently
had my first child. Through consistent work with Lynne combined
with running and a good diet, I was able to get into the best
physical shape of my life. My body fat was a 20 percent. I was
37 years old.
I
had had an epidural with my first pregnancy and was unable to
deliver my son without the assistance of my physician. It had
not been a great experience for me. Despite three month's worth
of Bradley Method childbirth classes, I was not able to make it
through childbirth without severe discomfort.
When
I became pregnant for the second time, I asked Lynne Page to be
my labor coach. I deliberated long and hard about this decision
because I knew if Lynne were with me, I would not ask for pain
relief. A scary proposition.
Lynne
was a great coach. It took the burden off my husband, who could
just be there as my companion, not my assistant. Lynne and I practiced
many relaxation and breathing techniques during the third trimester.
She also went to a check-up with my physician.
My
water broke a week before my due date and I was not having contractions.
Lynne came to my house. To induce the contractions (and avoid
a pitocin drip), Lynne helped me walk around and drink the appropriate
herbal teas.
The
contractions began and Lynne accompanied my husband and me to
the hospital. I can honestly say that I was not uncomfortable
and made it all the way through the "transition" phase
feeling good. The "pushing" stage hurt like hell, but
didn't last longer than 20 minutes. I am most proud of the fact
that I walked out of the delivery room with Lynne, my husband
and our new baby. (As we passed the nurses' station in the hall,
a nurse asked where the mother was; she was floored to learn I
was the mother.)
Today
I train on a weekly basis with Lynne. Her knowledge only continues
to expand. She has taken great steps to enhance her understanding
of nutrition during the last three years and is a first-rate resource.
She has become a good friend and well as a trusted advisor.
I
don't believe there is a better personal trainer or birth coach
available.
